2005 Scores and Game Results September 24, 2005 Bumpy Oak - 3 Combine - 0 WP: Billye Hollister LP: Jeff Angst Summary/Highlights With all scoring taking place in the third on an error and a 2 RBI single by Ray Michael, the Bombers hold off Combine to win the 2005 League Championship. Billye Hollister got the victory with a complete game 3 hit shutout.
September 18, 2005 Bumpy Oak - 11 Combine - 8 WP: B.J. Kittle LP: Jeff Angst Summary/Highlights A true battle to the end between the final two teams. Bumpy Oak jumped to a six run lead in the first only to have it erased by Combine when they took a 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth. However, in the bottom half of the eighth, the Bomber's Rich Lehosky hit his second grand slam of the weekend and they hold on in the top of the ninth to force a final championship game on Saturday, September 24th, 1:00pm at Legion Field.
September 17, 2005 Bumpy Oak - 14 St. Mary's - 6 WP: Shaun Bowling LP: Steve DeBarr Summary/Highlights In an offensive outburst, Bumpy Oak scored 8 runs in the first inning to get on top early. St. Mary's closed the gap to 8-4 before the Bombers responded to add to the lead and hold on for the victory.

Combine - 11 St. Mary's - 4 WP: Bill DeAtley LP: Steve DeBarr Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's St. Mary’s could not keep the magic alive for a second consecutive day as Combine soundly defeated St. Mary’s 11-4 in the second round of the 2005 playoffs. Combine got off to a quick start, scoring 4 runs in the second thanks to doubles by Chris D’Antuono and Danny Lee. Combine picked up 4 more in the 6th with 2 runs coming on a Mike McAllister homerun. Steve DeBarr gave a gutsy performance but was undone by a porous St. Mary’s defense. Bill DeAtley went the distance for Combine. He surrendered 4 runs on 8 hits. McAllister, D’Antuono, John Bass, Brian King, and Rudy Carrico had multi-hit games for Combine. John Childers and Drew Willard had multi-hit games for St. Mary’s.
September 10, 2005 St. Mary's - 8 Bumpy Oak - 5 WP: Kenny Williams LP: B.J. Kittle Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's It was deja vu all over again as the lower seeded St. Mary's Door knocked off the Bumpy Oak Bombers in the first round of the 2005 Charles-St. Mary's League playoffs. The normally dreadful St. Mary’s offensive attack exploded for 13 hits, including 5 doubles. St. Mary’s struck first, scoring 3 runs in the 4th, with 2 runs coming on a John Spinnenweber double. St. Mary’s scored again in the fifth on a 2 run double by Drew Willard and a RBI single by Jason Fean. St. Mary’s capped off the day by plating two runs in the eighth, thanks to a double from Joe Drury. Willard, Spinnenweber, Drury, and Jim Tanavage all had multi-hit games. St. Mary’s ace Kenny Williams kept the Bombers attack in check for most of the afternoon. However, Williams got in trouble in the seventh and surrendered a grand slam homerun to Aaron Michael. Fortunately, Williams returned to form and got out of the inning and then turned things over to Steve DeBarr who recorded the last 5 outs to give St. Mary’s the victory. B.J. Kittle took the loss for Bumpy Oak. Kittle, John Lee, and Clint Sanders each had multi-hit games for Bumpy Oak.
Combine - 5 Legion - 2 WP: Jeff Angst LP: Tony Sweeney Summary/Highlights Angst was solid, pitching a complete game in the first round victory.
September 1, 2005 Western Charles - 5 St. Mary's - 3 WP: Mike Pickeral LP: Jason Bean Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's Excellent pitching and a couple fortuitous calls helped Western Charles defeat St. Mary’s 5-3 in extra innings. Nick Vitielliss pitched 5 innings and gave up one run. Mike Pickeral pitched the final 3 innings, picking up the victory, while allowing 2 runs. 4 St. Mary’s pitchers combined to give up 5 runs on 8 hits, they struck out 10. Billy Wathen singled in the game winning runs in the top of the eight innings. Jason Bean and Jim Tanavage both had two hits for St. Mary’s, while Pickeral, Vitielliss, and Mike Mills had two hits for Western Charles.
August 28, 2005 Western Charles - 9 Waldorf - 2 WP: Harley Rice LP: Justin Crowell Summary/Highlights Submitted by Western Charles Western Charles defeated Waldorf 9-2 in the first game of the double header. John Klopfer III led the offense going 3-4 with 2 home runs, 3 RBI and 3 runs. Harley Rice went the distance allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and 7 strikeouts. Mike Finamore also had 2 hits and scored 3 runs. For Waldorf, Joe Mahoney was 2-4 in the game.
Western Charles - 9 Waldorf - 6 WP: Mike Pickeral LP: Justin Crowell Summary/Highlights Submitted by Western Charles The Natty Bohs completed the sweep by winning the second game 9-6. Mike Pickeral was 2-4 with a double and 2 runs. Nick Vitielliss was 2-4 with a run. John Klopfer and Micky Ely added 2 and 3 RBI apiece. Tim Ritter, Justin Crowell, and Jim Martin all had 2 hits for and an RBI Waldorf in the game.

Combine - 4 Redhawks - 1 WP: Dave Cross LP: Seth Overbey Summary/Highlights Submitted by Redhawks Story of the Redhawks season summed up in this game. Out hit Combine 9 to 5 but hit into double plays and left runners stranded. Dave Cross and Seth Overbey both pitched well. John Bass had a key RBI hit in the 7th to open the game up. The Redhawks currently plan on competing next season but major adjustments will have to be made.
August 27, 2005 Bumpy Oak - 4 St. Mary's - 3 WP: Billye Hollister LP: Steve DeBarr Summary/Highlights Submitted by Bumpy Oak Bumpy Oak swept St. Mary's in a Saturday doubleheader to finish the regular season 17-7 and earn the regular season championship. In game one, Billye Hollister took a no-hitter into the sixth inning with one out when Jim Tanavage's bloop single scored two runs and broke up the no-hit bid. Hollister finished the complete game with 9 strikeouts and allowed only two hits. Steve DeBarr took the loss for St. Mary's, but only gave up three hits. He was relieved by Jason Bean who threw the final two innings. Rich Lehosky had a key single in Bumpy Oak's first inning to drive in two runs. Bumpy Oak won the game 4-3.
Bumpy Oak - 3 St. Mary's - 1 WP: Shaun Bowling LP: Kenny Williams Summary/Highlights Submitted by Bumpy Oak Game 2 saw Shaun Bowling throw a complete game win for the Bombers. Bowling allowed 4 hits and struck out 4. Jaime Wright drove in a run with a single in the second inning and Clint Sanders followed with a two-run single to put Bumpy Oak ahead 3-0. Jim Tanavage had the lone RBI for the Door and Kenny Williams took the loss as the game ended 3-1.
August 21, 2005 Legion - 4 St. Mary's - 3 WP: Nick Rose LP: Kenny Williams Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's St. Mary's could not hold a late lead as Legion rallied to defeat the Door 4-3. Legion scored 2 runs, on 2 dying quails and a sac fly, in the bottom of the ninth off of St. Mary's lefty Kenny Williams to steal the victory from St. Mary's. Nick Rose picked up the complete game victory for Legion. Rose allowed 3 runs off of 5 hits in nine innings of work. Legion offensive attack was led by Joel Hudson and Ian Caballero. Hudson was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and a RBI, while Caballero was 2-4 with a RBI.
Western Charles - 10 Redhawks - 0 WP: Harley Rice LP: John Micklus Summary/Highlights Submitted by Redhawks Western Charles came out hitting scoring 10 runs in 8 innings on 10 hits and numerous ROEs. Johnny Klopfer had a 3 hit game. Ryan Beach added 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Tony Stefko had a pair of hits and runs as well. Harley Rice struck out 7 and Mike Pickeral pitched well in relief. John Micklus took the loss allowing 5 runs in 5 innings of work. Seth Overbey had 2 of the 4 hits including a triple but the Redhawks could not score him from third.
Bumpy Oak - 3 Waldorf - 2 WP: Shaun Bowling LP: Justin Crowell Summary/Highlights Submitted by Bumpy Oak Bumpy Oak defeated Waldorf 3-2 after Tommy Sellers scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th on a wild pitch to break a 2-2 tie. Waldorf belted out 10 hits, but Shaun Bowling earned the complete-game win. Tim Ritter, J.G. Strobel, and Jason Boyd all had two hits for Waldorf. Ray Michael led the Bombers with a 2-for-4 day and 2 doubles. Justin Crowell took the loss after throwing 8 1/3 innings - a day after pitching a game against Combine.
August 20, 2005 Bumpy Oak - 3 Legion - 2 WP: B.J. Kittle LP: Tony Sweeney Summary/Highlights Submitted by Bumpy Oak Bumpy Oak defeated Legion 3-2 as B.J. Kittle pitched a complete-game and scattered 5 hits for the win. Kittle also added a 2-for-3 day at the plate and scored a run. Aaron Michael also went 2-for-3 and Ray Michael, Rich Lehosky, and John Lee each added RBI hits. Tony Sweeney took the loss for Legion and Drew Lydon led the offense with 2 hits.
Combine - 12 Waldorf - 0 August 14, 2005 St. Mary's - 8 Redhawks - 6 WP: Kenny Williams LP: Kevin Wood Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's Kenny Williams got off to a rough start, surrendering 5 runs to the Redhawks in the first two innings. Fortunately, Williams settled down, holding the Redhawks to 1 run over the next 5 innings, picking an 8-6 victory for St. Mary’s. In a complete game effort, Williams walked 2 and struck out 8. St. Mary’s got back into the game with a 4 run 5th inning thanks to a Steve Zumpano bases loaded triple. St. Mary’s added 3 more runs in the 6th on hits by Chris Williar and John Childers. Bobby Connolly and Seth Overbey each had 3 hits for the Redhawks, while Darren Sanders had a triple and 2 RBI. Submitted by Redhawks The Redhawks jumped out to a quick 5-0 only to watch it slip away in a 8-6 loss of game 1. Kevin Wood pitched 5 solid innings but the big blow came on a 3 run triple by Steve Zumpano which fell just over the leftfielders glove who got a bad first jump on the ball. Kenny Williams got the complete game victory allowing 9 hits. Seth Overbey had 3 hits and 4 RBI while Bobby Connolly had 3 hits and 3 runs.
St. Mary's - 3 Redhawks - 2 WP: Flynn Stachowski LP: Seth Overbey Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's Flynn Stachowski carried a no hitter into the eighth before giving up an infield single to the Redhawks on his way to winning a tough 3-2 contest. Stachowski was hurt by two St. Mary’s errors, one his own, and allowed 2 unearned runs to the Redhawks. Stachowski walked 3, hit 1, and struck out 10 in a complete game effort. Seth Overbey was equally impressive. While taking the loss, Overbey only allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6. St. Mary’s tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by Garth Willard, Chris Williar scored the tying run after jarring the ball loose from the catcher in a collision at the plate. In the bottom of the eighth, Steve Zumpano singled to lead off the inning and stole second. Zumpano advanced to third when the ball got away from the Redhawks second baseman. Zumpano scored to win the game on a Jed Vess single to left. For St. Mary’s, Zumpano and Willard each had two hit, with Willard also picking up 2 RBI. Submitted by Redhawks Game 2's loss was worse than the first for the Redhawks. Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 out and 2 strikes, Garth Willard hit a slow roller up the middle and beat out the throw to first. Chris Williar who was at second headed home on the throw to first. The throw was in time to the plate but Williar knocked the ball out of catcher, Matt Gribble's glove. St. Mary's scored the winning run in the 8th inning. This was the Redhawks 5th loss by 1 run. Leading 11 innings out of 15 should get you at least one victory but as luck goes this season that wasn't the case.

Kittle LP: John Micklus Summary/Highlights Submitted by Redhawks Errors killed the Redhawks once again as they lost to the Bombers 7-3 in the final game of Sunday's triple-header. BJ Kittle got the win striking out 8 in 6 innings. Shawn Bowling earned the save with 3 perfect innings. Kittle had 3 hits to lead the offense for Bumpy Oak. John Micklus pitched well again striking out 8 in a complete game effort and allowing 4 earned runs. Ryan Leonard had a pair of hits, a run and an RBI for the Redhawks. Submitted by Bumpy Oak B.J. Kittle pitched 6 innings for the win and went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a double. Shaun Bowling pitched in relief for Bumpy Oak and went three perfect innings allowing 0 hits, 0 walks, while striking out 4. John Lee added 3 hits and Ray Michael and Lance Martin had two hits apiece. John Micklus threw all 9 innings for the Redhawks and suffered the loss. Wes Delia and Ryan Leonard had two hits apiece for the Redhawks and Dennis Anderson had an RBI double.

Williams struck out 6 and walked 6. Bill DeAtley took the loss for Combine. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits. Jim Tanavage, Joe Drury, and John Spinnenweber each drove in a run. Jason Bean had 2 hits on the day. Brian King had 2 hits and an RBI for Combine.
Combine - 1 St. Mary's - 0 WP: Bill DeAtley LP: Steve DeBarr Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's Jeff Angst and Flynn Stachowski hooked up in a classic pitchers duel that turned into a game no one wanted to see end. Combine eventually prevailed over St. Mary’s 1-0 in a 14 inning contest that may go down as one of the longest games in league history. Angst pitched 10 innings of shutout baseball, striking out 10 while only allowing 4 hits. Stachowski kept pace by throwing 9 innings of shutout baseball, allowing 4 hits while striking out 8. Steve DeBarr relieved Stachowski and pitched 5 innings, giving up 1 hit while striking out 4. However, the one hit DeBarr gave up proved to be costly. In the top of the 14th, David Russell led off with a triple to left center and scored on a wild pitch. However, that turned out not to be the most important play of the game. St. Mary’s faced Bill DeAtley, who had entered the game in the 11th in relief of Angst, in the bottom of the 14th. After recording two quick outs, DeAtley surrender a single to Drew Willard and a double to John Childers, to put runners on second and third. Tracy Vallandingham then sent a sinking line drive to center, that would have easily scored both Willard and Childers, but Combine center fielder Brian Garner made a fantastic diving catch to steal the victory away from St. Mary’s.
Waldorf - 6 Redhawks - 5 WP: Mike Boyce LP: John Micklus Summary/Highlights Submitted by Waldorf Waldorf sweeps Redhawks in d/h this past Sunday. Justin Crowell led Waldorf going 3 for 5 with 1 HR, 4 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 1 BB and 1 HBP. Mike Boyce pitched 2 complete games to pick up both wins for Waldorf. M. Boyce pitched a Gem in Game 2 allowing just 1 hit and 0 runs. M. Boyce only had 2 earned runs all day. Matt Gribble was stuck with the L in game two for the Redhawks. Darren Sanders and Dennis Anderson had a multi hit day for the Redhawks, while 7 players from Waldorf had a multi hit day. Submitted by Redhawks The Redhawks lost yet another game with a late inning lead. John Micklus went 7+ innings striking out 12 and allowing 3 earned runs. Mike Boyce went the distance allowing only 3 earned runs as well. The Redhawks led the entire game until Waldorf tied it in the 6th. The Redhawks then scored 2 in the 7th followed by Waldorf's 2 unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning. John Strobel led the offense for Waldorf with 3 hits including a game winning 1 out single in the 8th.

Errors were plentiful and so were the Waldorf hits. Mike Boyce collected his second victory of the day pitching 5 innings of shutout ball. Jason Boyd had multiple hits and 3 RBI.
Legion - 3 Western Charles - 2 WP: Tony Sweeney LP: Mike Pickeral Summary/Highlights Submitted by Western Charles Tony Sweeney went the distance for Legion allowing two runs on only five hits. Ian caballero led the offense going 3 for 3 with a double and scoring all three runs. Mike Pickeral took the loss for Western Charles, but allowed 3 runs on only 4 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Tony Sweeney picked up the victory in relief. Matt Gribble threw a 1 hit shutout through 7. Matt Wagner came on in relief and allowed 3 runs in the 8th led by Clint Ayres 2 run single. In the top of the 9th the Redhawks loaded the bases with 0 outs. Tony Sweeney came in and allowed an RBI single to Bobby Connolly followed by a strikeout and game ending double play. Clint Ayres got the victory striking out 9.

Every starting player had at least one hit, led by Ryan Leonard with 3. Despite scoring 14 runs 14 runners were left on base. John Micklus started off rocky allowing 5 runs in the first, but settled down to strike out 12 in a complete game effort.

The Door had runners at second and third with 1 out in the top of the seventh but could only plate 1 run. Tony Sweeney picked up the win for Legion, Steve DeBarr took the loss for St. Mary's. For Legion, Joel Hudson was 1-2 with two runs scored and Ian Caballero was 1-1 with 2 RBI. For St. Mary's, Steve Zumpano was 2-3 and Clarke Rollins was 2-4 with 2 RBI. Western Charles then held on to take the 3-1 win. Billy Wathen pitched the first five innings allowing the one run and earning the win. Nick Vitielliss then came in to pitch two scoreless innings for the save. For Western Charles, Ryan Shifflett was 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored and Tony Stefko was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI. For the Redhawks, Daren Sanders was 3 for 3 with an RBI, John Micklus was 2 for 3, Chris Blondin was 2 for 3 with a double, and Bobby Connolly scored the team's only run. Submitted by Redhawks Western Charles got a timely 3-run double from Tony Stefko and that's all they would need to defeat the Redhawks. Kevin Wood pitched well allowing 7 hits in 6 innings of work. The game ended on a questionable call at the plate with runners left on second and third. Flynn Stachowski picked up the victory pitching six innings giving up seven hits. Mike Pickeral took the loss giving up four runs on four hits and four walks. St. Mary's was led by Jason Bean who was 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBI. For Western Charles, John Klopfer III was 3-4 with an RBI, a double, and a home run.
