August 13, 2006 St. Mary's - 10 Waldorf - 0 WP: Bill DeAtley LP: Mike Boyce Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's St. Mary's defeated Waldorf 10-0 in a five innings affair in the first game of their double header. St. Mary's scored runs in four out of the five innings played and got strong offensive performances from multiple players. Brett Willar, Steve Zumpano, Jason Bean, Drew Willard and Justin Mika each had two hits for St. Mary's. However, St. Mary's got a better performance on the mound. Bill DeAtley threw a complete game shut out. DeAtley faced the minimum number of batters, only allowed one hit and struck out four.
St. Mary's - 2 Waldorf - 1 WP: Greg Conden LP: Chris Boyce Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's Game 2 between St. Mary's and Waldorf was a much tighter affair. St. Mary's scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 2-1 victory. St. Mary's got another strong pitching performance, this time from Greg Conden. Conden pitched a complete game, gave up 3 hits, and only allowed 1 run. However, Conden was matched by Chris Boyce, who also pitched a complete game. In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied at 1, Steve Zumpano walked with two outs. Zumpano then stole second and advanced to third when the throw got away from the Waldorf infield. Jim Tanavage promptly singled to left to give St. Mary's the win.

BJ Kittle, John Lee, and Darren Sanders each had two hits. Clint Sanders was a late arrival from a plane flight, but he had a pinch hit single with 2 RBI. Aaron Michael and Kittle also had 2 RBI. Danny Lydon had 2 hits and an RBI for the Natty Bohs.

In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 6-6, Steve Zumpano led off with a double and advanced to third on a pass ball. After two intentional walks, Drew Willard singled off of Tony Sweeney to score Zumpano and give the Door a much needed victory.

Flynn Stachowksi pitched a complete game for St. Mary’s and picked up the victory. Stachowski scattered 5 hits over seven innings and only allowed two runs. Tony Sweeney also pitched a complete game scattering 6 hits and giving up three runs. In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied at 2, Joe Drury reached on an error by Legion and advanced to second on the wild throw. Drury advanced to third on a Steve DeBarr bunt the was mishandled by Legion. After an intentional walk, Garth Willard lifted a deep fly ball to left that was out of the reach of the drawn in Legion outfield, scoring Drury for the game winning run.

July 9, 2006 St. Mary's - 4 Western Charles - 3 WP: Flynn Stachowski LP: Harley Rice Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's St. Mary’s edged Western Charles 4-3 in a close contest that featured excellent pitching and some timely offense. Flynn Stachowski pitched 8 innings for St. Mary’s, while Harley Rice threw 7 and a 1/3 innings for Western Charles. Stachowski allowed 3 runs (2 earned) while only allowing 4 hits and striking out 4. Rice struck out 9 for Western Charles and was charged with all 4 of St. Mary’s runs. Western Charles scored first in the top of the third on an error by Ryan Shephard. Shephard quickly made up for his miscue by tying the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single. St. Mary’s took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two runs but Western Charles answered with two of their own in the top of the seventh. St. Mary’s scored the winning run in the bottom of the eight. Jim Tanavage singled to left and advanced to second on an error by the Western Charles outfield. Tanavage then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Nick Vitielliss relieved Rice with Garth Willard coming to bat. After fouling off some tough pitches, Willard worked the count to 2-2. On the next pitch, Willard delivered a perfect suicide squeeze which scored pinch runner Jason Fean. Billy DeAtley came on in the ninth to pick up the save for St. Mary’s. Ryan Shephard was 3-4 with a run scored, an RBI, and a double for St. Mary’s. Mike Beattie was 3-4, with a double for Western Charles.

and Legion's Tony Sweeney locked into a pitcher's duel until late in the
game. Going into the 5th inning, Sweeney had a no-hitter and Hollister had
allowed only a 4th-inning double to Ian Caballero. Bumpy Oak went ahead 1-0
in the 5th when Ray Michael walked and later scored on a John Lee single.
Darren Sanders and Tommy Sellers also singled in the inning, but Bumpy Oak
squandered an opportunity and stranded the bases loaded. The score remained
1-0 until the top of the seventh when Kevin Lindsey drove a Hollister pitch
over the right field fence for a two-run go-ahead homer. T.C. Renner scored
on the blast after he had walked. Bumpy Oak took the game in the bottom of
the 8th when Rich Lehosky singled and Seth Overbey followed with a 2-run
homerun to right-center. Nick Rose relieved for Sweeney but, after getting
two outs, allowed a single to Ray Michael, hit Clint Sanders, and allowed a
single to Darren Sanders. Lee then gave the Bombers some breathing room with
a two-run single to make it 5-2. Overbey relieved Hollister in the ninth and
was overpowering to strike out the side for the save. Clint Sanders had 2 RBI and a double. John Lee had two hits including a double. Tommy Sellers pitched five innings for the win and had 7 strikeouts while allowing only one hit, three walks, and one hit batter. Seth Overbey pitched two innings of relief and struck out 4 of 6 batters he faced.

In the first inning, Darren Sanders had a 2-run homer and Seth Overbey, Rich Lehosky and Clint Sanders followed with back-to-back-to-back doubles. Combine - 7 St. Mary's - 2 WP: Jeff Angst LP: Greg Conden Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's Combine defeated St. Mary’s in both games of their double header on Sunday by the scores of 7-2 and 9-5.. In game one, Jeff Angst and Billy DeAtley hooked up in what looked like would be a low scoring affair. Combine struck first on a Mike McAllister lead off homerun in the first and added two more in the fourth on a single by Justin Arminger. St. Mary’s responded with two runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Steve Zumpano and Jason Bean. However, the tight game was busted open by Combine on a grand slam homerun from Matt Haynes off of St. Mary’s reliever Greg Conden. Scott Bickford came on to relieve Angst and pitched a perfect seventh for Combine.
Combine - 9 St. Mary's - 5 WP: Scott Bickford LP: Kenny Williams Summary/Highlights Submitted by St. Mary's In game two, St. Mary’s got off to a fast start in the first on a grand slam homerun by Nick Vallandingham off Combine starter Scott Bickford. St. Mary’s added another run in the second but St. Mary’s starter Kenny Williams could not hold the lead. Combine scored three in the second and five in the forth to take the lead. Combine added one more in the sixth to complete the comeback. Nick Vallandingham was 2-4 with 4 RBI for St. Mary’s; Danny Lee went 3-4 with two runs scored for Combine. Bickford picked up the win for Combine, while Williams took the loss for St. Mary’s.

6-4. Clint Sanders hit a grand slam in the 7th inning to break a 2-2 tie (he
had an RBI single earlier in the game as well). Shaun Bowling earned the win
(7 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 BB, 4 K) and had relief help from Tommy Sellers and
BJ Kittle (who earned the save). Bill DeAtley pitched the first 6 innings
for St. Mary's (6 hits, 1 run, 2 BB's, 3 K's), Greg Conden relieved and took
the loss by walking in a run and giving up the slam to Sanders. (Conden: 2
IP, 2 hits, 5 runs, 3 BB's, 3 K's). Steve DeBarr pitched the 9th. Submitted by St. Mary's St. Mary’s and Bumpy Oak continued its string of close games with another exciting tilt on Opening Day. St. Mary’s carried a 2-1 lead into the seventh behind a strong pitching performance by Bill DeAtley. However, Bumpy Oak plated 5 in the seventh off of St. Mary’s reliever Greg Conden thanks to a grand slam by Clint Sanders. St. Mary’s scored 2 in the bottom of the ninth on a two run double by Steve Zumpano and brought the winning run to the plate but BJ Kittle got Jason Bean to ground out to end the St. Mary’s rally and preserve a 6-4 Bumpy Oak victory.
Legion - 8 Western Charles - 7 WP: T.J. Thompson LP: Danny Lydon Summary/Highlights Submitted by Western Charles In an opening day 14 inning thriller, Legion was the last team standing. They jumped up early in the game by scoring a run in the top of the first when Kevin Lindsay led off the game with a bunt single and scored later on an errant throw. Legion scored again in the top of the fifth, but Western Charles answered with one in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sisxth to take a 4-2 lead. Legion then returned with single runs in the seventh and eighth to tie the game after nine. In the top of the 12th, Legion plated two runs to again take the lead, but in the bottom of the inning Western Charles answered with a two run homer by John Klopfer III. Legion again scored two in the top of the 14th. Western Charles plated one in the bottom of the inning but left runners on first and second to end the game. For Western Charles in the game, Danny Lydon was 2-5 with a double, Tony Stefko was 2-6 with a run and an RBI, Joey Klopfer was 3-7 with a run and an RBI, John Kehres was 2-7, and John Klopfer III added a home run and 2 RBI. For Legion, Tony Galiano was 3-6 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and 2 doubles, Drew Lydon was 2-7 with 2 doubles, George Baker was 3-6 with 3 RBI, Dave Hoffmaster was 2-7 with a run and a SB, and Scott Rosenbloom was 2-4 with a run, an RBI, and a SB.

We gave up 4 runs on 4 errors in the sixth which is what put the game away for us. our one hit and one run came in the third inning a double by sean duke. Timmy boyd bunted him to third. Derek turner reached on error to push the run across the plate.
